I know I have used this source in a previous week from the same exhibition, but there are truly incredible design solutions; I suggest perusing the website if you have time.  In the reading Cradle to Cradle the writers, McDonough and Brsungart reflected on impact of design and sustainability.  Similar to Julie Bargmann’s lecture they also discussed soil, towards the beginning of the reading on page 97 they write that it takes about 500 years for earth to build up an inch of its rich layers of microorganisms and nutrients and today we are losing 5,000 times more soil than is being produced.  Designers must think of the life cycle of whatever they produce.  These examples of Eco bricks both insulate a house and do not strip the ground of minerals.  I think these are examples of being innovative by solving multiple problems by using readily available materials and in turn improving the product by making lighter, cheaper, and more sustainable bricks.
