Global Now: Abstract
Headline: Reusable diapers buffer against Spanish recession
Abstract: While the topics of this week are focused on re-appropriation and reusability, from the naval urban lands of urban outfitters to a cradle to cradle philosophy of returning or reusing both biological and technological nutrients, I bring you the story of a small company struggling to stay in the cradle. Monste Munoz is the founder of Tucuxi, a company that produces reusable diapers in Barcelona, Spain. With just 3 second hand sewing machines and a goal of ridding lower class families of the expense of disposable diapers while not unaware of her environmental impact. When unemployment is at an all time high for spain at 25% this is a clear example of how a sustainable cradle to cradle mentalized product can not only keep thousands of disposable diapers out of landfills, but also create jobs with a higher quality product that will ultimately be more economical for the low income families that can benefit from her company.
