Abstract: In researching some music for a commercial that I am making for another class I went to YouTube and came across this Documentary. It is about a family of musicians, The Mata Family, who are trying to keep the traditional Mariachi music alive. The parents instruct Mariachi music at a local school in Boyle Heights, Ca. and their two daughters participate. They also play in their own Mariachi band together. I believe that culture can change and become something greater than what it use to be, but some things in relation to culture should be preserved. Mariachi music to me is not just what you hear playing at a Mexican restaurant, it’s speaks to where I came from, my culture.
